Photography Seminars & Safaris
Sharing techniques and experiences to make photography come alive

CameraSeminars

I combine my 26 years of professional photographic experience with a love of teaching and coaching to make these seminars fun, educational and productive. They are custom designed for you. Whether you are a serious amateur or just a visitor to the island who wants to learn how to take better vacation photos, I can tailor the course to fit your interests and needs.

Packages include: eight-hour photo safaris to scenic Maui locations; deluxe week-long photo-journalism seminars, and group presentations at hotels and resorts.

CameraActive Learning

Individual and small-group seminars are active. The idea is to spend a little time talking and a lot of time out in the field shooting. Learn as you go and have fun along the way. Special extras like door-off helicopter photo flights, fashion models in a studio, or up-close access to sports action, are all possible. With my island knowledge and contacts, I will place you and your camera in interesting places with intriguing people. There are events nearly every week on Maui. If you are in town at the right time, you could shoot things like rodeos, windsurfing championships, golf tournaments, cultural festivals and parades.

CameraGroups

For larger groups, topics can range from “The life of a photojournalist” to “How to Take Better Photos.” Presentation blends a Power Point slide show of Matthew Thayer's award-winning photographs with the inside scoop on how he got the shots. Students will be entertained and educated as they see what makes an image work and why. Seminars can run from one to four hours and may include photo “walks” around the grounds of where the seminar is being held. One popular option is to spend a portion of the time on a group photo hunt and then have a slide show of students' work at the end of the day's seminar.
